Twenty for days before the stat of the national championships, increasing uncertainty is mounting about the fitness of former 100 metre world record
holder Asafa Powell. Powell has been recovering from an ankle injury he sustained on April 25, and in his first race since the injury he finished seventh overall in the 100 metres at last Saturday's Reebok Grand Prix in New York. He finished in 10.10 seconds. The MVP athlete's form in the race led to question's about his recovery from the injury. Powell is also scheduled to compete in this Sunday's Prefontaine Classic in Oregon. MVP President Bruce James says the club is monitoring the situation and will do what's best for the athlete. "It is difficult to measure his degree of fitness but he continues despite recovering from an ankle injury that he's been struggling with for some time but the coaching staff has him on a programme that I expect will have him ready when he needs to be ready," said James. |
