Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett says he is concerned
about the possible fallout in tourist arrivals following the hijacking of the
Canadian aircraft. However he says the situation will not stop tourist officials from promoting the island as an attractive destination. "We are concerned about the possible implications of the hijacking which took place recently. However in the UK so far we have not gotten any significant feedback from the media and the market here," said Mr. Bartlett speaking with RJR News from London. "The US and Canada would be slightly different. The media activity coming from those two destinations are quite buoyant. The fact is that we now have to hit the market," He said as bad as the situation was, he is happy with how it ended. "We've done well in terms of dealing with the situation at home. The Prime Minister was phenomenal so was the security forces, the tourism partners at home, the airport everybody worked very well to deal with the situation and I think that the wider global community is satisfied that Jamaica dealt with the matter properly. This is the kind of question we have to deal with at home and satisfy the world that this type of incident won't be repeated," said Mr. Bartlett. |
