Members of the team appointed to investigate the incident
which led to the collapse of a section of the Fiesta Hotel Development in Point
Hanover are attended a briefing on Monday afternoon with Prime Minister Bruce
Golding on the developments.Prime Minister Golding had instructed Minister Without Portfolio Bobby Montaque to spearhead the investigation along with Minister of State in the Transport and Works Ministry Joseph Hibbert and a technical team from the National Works Agency. Two workers were reportedly injured in the incident on Friday. Mr. Golding's instruction was reportedly precipitated by the frequency of accidents reported at the site and injuries to persons associated with the construction of the hotel. A release out of the Information Ministry stated that the parties must be accompanied by representatives of the Hanover Parish Council on its visit to the construction site. The team has until the end of the week to tender a report on its findings. It is expected to detail whether the developers are adhering to approved safety measures in the construction process. Reports from the Project Manager of the near 2,000 room hotel development are that a Jamaican worker and a Dominican engineer were injured on Friday when safety scaffolds collapsed while workers were pouring concrete at a section of the site. |
