Digicel to cut staff by 10% PDF Print
Monday, 12 January 2009
Image Digicel could see a 10% reduction in its staff across the region with the introduction of its Voluntary Separation Programme (VSP).

The programme which was introduced Monday, applies to staff in 23 regional markets, including Jamaica.

In a release, Digicel said it expects that approximately 10% of its work force will take advantage of the company's offer of enhanced separation terms.

The region's largest mobile service provider feels the voluntary separation offer will allow employees to leave the company of their own free will with additional financial support and benefits.

Both full-time and part-time Digicel employees are eligible to receive enhanced packages based on years of service.

The package will include extended health cover, pro rata bonuses and accelerated payments for stock options.

Digicel said it is also providing career transition assistance to the employees who participate in the scheme.

Colm Delves, Digicel Group CEO, rationalises the move by saying that the company is reassessing its organizational structure and processes in a bid to improve them.

The move to trim the organization's 'fat' is seen as critical given the current challenging economic environment.

Digicel's total investments across 31 markets world-wide have exceeded US $3.4 billion
