Some of the island's
cane farmers are worried that they could suffer fallout arising from the problems
affecting the start of the new Sugar Crop.
The farmers have pointed to the late start of grinding operations of factories and frequent cane fires as major areas of concern. Executive Member of the West End Cane Farmers Association Lucius Jackson said members could incur financial losses. The operations of some state run factories have been in limbo due to protracted negotiations for their sale. The Government is hoping that the entities will be sold to the Brazilian firm Infinity Bio Energy this month. |
