Flights in and out of Antigua's
VC Bird International airport are being delayed or canceled as a result of
action by air traffic controllers. The controllers have gone on what has been described in the aviation industry as a flow control. According to an airport source, only one flight can land or take off within a twenty minute period. The action comes amidst agitation for a pay hike prompting authorities to call an emergency meeting for tuesday night. WINAIR/Antigua & Barbuda flight deal Meanwhile, air travel between Antigua and its sister island Barbuda looks more secure as a formal two year agreement has been signed between the Government with the Dutch Caribbean airline, WINAIR, for daily flights between St. John and Codrington. According to Harold Lovell, Antigua and Barbuda's Aviation Minister, a partnership approach for there to be continuous viability. "WINAIR has committed itself to providing regular and reliable service between Antigua and Barbuda and almost between Antigua and Montserrat which does not form part of this agreement," he said. Mr. Lovell added that the Government has committed itself to grant WINAR with certain concessions and incentives. "We must find ways to ensure that all these commitments that we have given are all honoured in a timely way and in the sprit in which they have been entered into," he said. |
