The Ministry of Health is reporting a decline in cases of
conjunctivitis also known as "Pink-eye".There was a recent increase in cases especially in the Corporate Area. Director of Health Promotion and Protection in the Ministry, Dr. Eva Lewis-Fuller, says the number of reported cases declined from 2,433 in September to 1,929 at the end of last month. Dr. Lewis-Fuller says data showed that St. Catherine had the highest infection rate. The parish had 1,521 reported cases for January to October. Dr. Lewis-Fuller attributes the successful reduction in conjunctivitis infections to the Ministry's national public education campaign on measures to contain the outbreak. She has however cautioned Jamaicans not to become complacent and to continue adhering to the relevant preventive measures to ward off the possibility of re-infection. |
