Jamaica misses out on final round place PDF Print

Image The reactions continue following Jamaica's disappointing exit from the 2010 world cup qualifying campaign at the National Stadium Wednesday night.

Needing a must win to stand any chance of advancing, Jamaica defeated Canada 3-0 but this proved to be not enough to advance after Honduras beat Mexico 1-0 in the other Concacaf group 2 match  in San Pedro Sula.

Both teams advanced with Mexico who are leveled on the same 10 points as Jamaica, but advancing as a result of a better goal difference.

Honduras topped the group with 12 points.

Jamaica needed Mexico to defeat Honduras to ensure they advanced.

And despite the impeccable record of Theodore Whitmore and Bradley Stewart who guided Jamaica to five wins in as many games, JFF's President Captain Horace Burrell has reiterated his view that local coaches cannot take the team to the international stage and again defended his decision to hire John Barnes.

In other Concacaf results Trinidad and Tobago cemented their spot in the final round from group 1 after beating Cuba 3-0 at the Hasely Crawford Stadium.

In the other group one match the USA blanked Guatemala 2-0.

In group 3, Costa Rica defeated host El Salvador  2-1, however both teams had already qualified for the final round.

Host Suriname and Haiti ended 1-1 in the other group 1 match.
