Former Jamaica Captain Wavell Hinds has been re-elected Vice-President
of the West Indies Players Association, while
Dinanath Ramnarine, was re-elected as President at the annual general meeting
in Guyana at the weekend. Former West Indies Captain Jimmy Adams who was recently appointed technical director of cricket in Jamaica is the secretary and the current Trinidad & Tobago captain Daren Ganga will be his assistant. Former fast bowler Ian Bradshaw will serve as treasurer. Ramnarine assured the players that "in addition to looking after their rights and interests, the executive will continue to participate in dealing with the challenges in the regional and international cricket arena." Meantime, Captain Chris Gayle and middle order batsman Shivnarine Chanderpaul have moved up the ICC one day batting rankings despite the team's dismal performance in the recently concluded three match one day international series against Pakistan in Abu Dahbi. Gayle who scored two hundreds in the series climbed six places to fifth place while Chanderpaul jumped two places to fourth in the rankings topped by India's Mahendra Singh Dhoni. Gayle has also moved up three places back into the top five, in the one day all rounders rankings headed by New Zealand's Jacob Oram. Jerome Taylor moved up 4 places to 9th in the bowlers ranking. In the team rankings Pakistan moved up two places to fourth, India's two back to back victories against England has propelled them to the third spot while Australia top the table ahead of South Africa. |
