Image Prime Minister Bruce Golding says Haiti continues to be a major source of concern for Jamaica in the fight against crime.

The Prime Minister says he will be approaching the United States for help in stemming the illegal guns for drugs trade between Jamaica and Haiti.

Mr. Golding made the disclosure Sunday at the Jamaica Labour Party's 65th annual conference.

In view of the debilitating crime situation that has already resulted over 1,400 murders this year, he expressed serious concern about the criminal link between Haiti and Jamaica.

"We not blaming the Haitian government because the Haitian government is wrestling with some serious challenges far worse than anything that we have to content with and therefore the kind of tight control that would prevent this thing from happening is not something that can be reasonable be asked of the Haitian government," Mr. Golding said.

The Prime Minister, who has already held talks with Haitian President Rene Preval on the matter, also plans to raise the issue at an upcoming meeting with US Secretary of State Condoleeza Rice that is scheduled for Washington D.C.
