A new administration could soon be installed in Dutch St
Maarten after two commissioners from the governing party resigned. Commissioner Louis Lavest who was arrested on charges of forgery has withdrawn his support for the ruling democratic party and is now backing the opposition National Alliance Party. His colleague Theodore Hyliger has also stepped down. Their departure means that the Democratic Party now holds five of the eleven seats in the island council and no longer has a majority. Newspaper editor in St Maarten Paul Dewint has been tracking developments. |
