Friday, 14 September 2007
Prime Minister Bruce Golding. The 17 persons who were selected to join the Bruce Golding led Cabinet were sworn in Friday morning at Kings House.

It was a bumper crowd of well wishers, businesspeople and party faithfuls.

Friends and families of the appointees were gathered on the lawns of Kings House to witness the swearing in of the Bruce Golding-led Cabinet.

The Ministers-designate were in good spirits and there was much slapping of backs and congratulatory hugs and kisses prior to the start of the function.

17 ministers as we know will be sworn in.

In his charge to the Ministers-designate Governor General Professor Kenneth Hall said he knew it was a difficult task for Prime Minister Bruce Golding to choose a Cabinet and called upon the ministers as they take up the mantle of leadership that as a minister in the Cabinet they are apart of a team and one of the cardinal principals of Cabinet government is that of collective responsibility. Dr. Ken Baugh Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs was the first to read the instrument of appointment and affix his signature to the documents.

He was followed by Audley Shaw who was appointed as Minister of Finance, Derrick Smith as National Security Minister, Andrew Holness as Education Minister, Karl Samuda as the Minister of Industry and Commerce.

Mr. Samuda warmly hugged Prime Minister and Party Leader Bruce Golding after he signed the instrument of appointment.

He was followed by Ed Bartlett as Tourism Minister, Dr. Christopher Tufton as Agriculture Minister and Clive Mullings Minister of Mining and Energy.

When the orator read out the name of Olivia Grange who was being appointed as Minister of Information, Culture, Youth and Sports there was loud applause as she made her way to the podium.

After signing the instrument of appointment, Ms. Grange warmly hugged Mr. Golding and former Prime Minister Edward Seaga, who was also among those attending the function.

And Governor General Professor Kenneth Hall on Friday morning appointed three Jamaica Labour Party Senators to the Cabinet.

They are Dorothy Lightbourne, Don Wehby and Dwight Nelson who have been appointed to the Bruce Golding cabinet.

The Governor General's Secretary, Rosemarie Gibbs read the instrument appointing the Senators.

"I Kenneth Octavius Hall under the Order of the Nation, member of the Order of Jamaica...hereby appoint you to be such Senator given under my hand and the broad seal of Jamaica at Kings House this 14th day of September in the year of our Lord 2007 and the 56th year of the reign of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second," said Ms. Gibbs.
