Image  A senior official of the Organisation of American States (OAS) has hailed Haiti's re-development plans and pledged continued assistance to the hurricane-ravaged country.

At a meeting in Washington last week with Alex Larsen, Haiti's newly-appointed Health Minister, OAS Assistant Secretary General Albert Ramdin welcomed plans by the Haitian government to rebuild medical and other key facilities in areas not prone to disasters.

Nearly 800 people were killed in four recent storms, which also wiped out food crops as well as damaged irrigation systems and major structures.

Mr. Larsen used his visit to Washington to update the OAS official on the government's recovery, rehabilitation and reconstruction efforts.

He also spoke about the clean-up efforts that are currently underway in the northern city of Gonaïïves and other heavily impacted areas.
