Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Paula Llewellyn is
now processing a file compiled by the Police on former Head of the St.
Catherine North Police Division Superintendent Harry "Bungles" Daley.Superintendent Daley was arrested last Thursday and accused of corruption. On Monday morning DPP Paula Llewellyn explained to RJR News that the matter is a complex one and involved more than just making a ruling on whether the senior policeman will be charged. She said her office and the Anti Corruption Branch of the Force are in Conference on the way to proceed. Sunday night Head of the Branch, Assistant Commissioner Justin Felice told RJR News the DPP will be asked to decide whether charges should be pursued against Superintendent Daley. Defence attorney Valerie Neita Robertson told RJR News then that she will await the ruling of the DPP. Superintendent Daley was arrested on Thursday during a sting operation along Arnold Road in St. Andrew. He was reportedly nabbed with a package containing $15,000. Investigators alleged that the money was collected by the policeman as part of a major extortion racket. Superintendent Daley was questioned for four hours on the weekend about the racket. Several houses said to be owned by him were also raided on Thursday as investigators searched for clues to build their case. And Mrs. Neita Robertson says she will be seeking the release of six persons employed to Superintendent Daley. The six, including three barmaids, were arrested last week during raids at the Superintendent's home and bar in Spanish Town. On Sunday night ACP Felice declined to comment on the status of the six. |
