| PNP NEC meeting underway |

The first day of the crucial two day annual meeting of
the People's National Party's (PNP) National Executive Council (NEC) at the
Inter Faculty Lecture Theatre at the University of the West is underway. A press conference schedule for 3 o'clock to end the day's session was two hours late. Deputy General Secretary of PNP Julian Robinson gave the waiting media an update on the day's events. "This meeting is really a preparatory meeting for our annual conference which is scheduled for September 18 to the 21st. We received reports from all organs of the party and the Party Leader made a presentation this morning to set the tone for the NEC," he said. Mr. Robinson said the day was spent mainly discussing the many reports. NEC discussion of the various reports Several other issues including the upcoming Presidential election are high on the agenda. It comes in the wake of a growing split between the camps backing PNP President Portia Simpson-Miller and Vice President Dr. Peter Phillips. The two will face off for the top job in September. |
