Jamaica wins first Caribbean Championship PDF Print

swimming poolJamaica  is  still  celebrating  its  first ever title   success   in the  32  year  history  of the Caribbean Islands Swimming Championship   after  topping the  17th  event  which  came  to an end  on Tuesday night at the National  Stadium Pool.

 

The  host  country    finished  second  in  the swimming competition with  766.5 points. second in the   water polo   with  60 points  and third in  synchronised  events   with 222  points  for   a grand total of 1048.5 points.

This was  67.5  points  more than  Trinidad  and Tobago who  were champions in the swimming and water polo events,  but did not  contest  the synchronised event.

Aruba  who   topped the  synchronised  event  finished third over all with  884.5 points.

Jamaica  ended  with  17 gold, 16 silver,  and  20  bronze  for  third place  behind  Trinidad  and Tobago whose  87  medals included  26 gold.

Puerto Rico   had 30  gold among its 62 medal haul.

Jamaica captured  1  gold,  3 silver,  and  3 bronze  medal,   in  the  night's  action   with   Kendes  Nangle  smashing   the   14   year  old  girls 13-14 100 meters backstroke  record. 

Nangle   returned   a   record breaking  01.08.19 seconds  to  take gold  as  teammate Alexia  royal Eatmon  took  bronze.

Nangle  and  Eatmon also   helped  the

Girls   13-14 -400 meters  medley  relay  team  to  the silver. Jamaica  also  took  silver  in the 11-12 girls  400 meters medley  relay.   Octavia  Grey   won  silver    in the   11-12 girls   100 meters breaststroke  in    01:20.64  seconds.

Natasha Moodie  won bronze in the  15-17 girls  100 meters breaststroke.  

Dominic  Walter also   took bronze  in the   15-17 boys   1500 meters free style   which ended  with   9   laps  to go  because  of  a   37 minutes  stoppage  due to  a  power failure.
