Two foreigners have been nabbed as the police intensify
their crackdown on the sale of pirated DVDs.
Two men from Ghana were arrested for breaches of the Copyright Act during operations in downtown Kingston and Bull Bay in St. Andrew on Thursday. Deputy Superintendent Conroy Reid of the Organised Crime Investigation Division said Rufie Abukar, 26, was held on Orange Street after he was allegedly caught selling more than 300 pirated DVDs. DSP Reid said the police then went to his house in Bull Bay where they discovered further evidence of copyright breaches and arrested his brother. "A number of computers fitted with DVD recorders were seen, also computer monitors, a printer and over 2,500 pirated DVD's. His brother, Allasane Abukar, 36, who also occupies the premises and is also from Ghana, was arrested and jointly charged," said DSP Reid. The men are to appear in court on Tuesday. On Wednesday, three persons were taken into custody in downtown Kingston after they were reportedly caught with more than 500 illegal DVDs. |
